How to mix up your adored prints?

Focus on what works, not what "doesn't" work.  For example: You may have heard before that plaids and stripes do not mix, BUT really stripes go with everything...including plaids. Across the board prints are pretty interchangeable, however, keep these 4 tips in mind while mixing:

1. Simple and Graphic. Stripes, especially black and white stripes, are the most versatile. The simplicity of them, make them the most neutral print. Graphic prints compliment with each other and mix well with complex or organic prints. Examples: florals & animal prints. These more complex prints can really flatter each other but this look takes a little more consideration when pulling it off.  Things like, coloring and size play a more important role, so at first it can be challenging if you're not 100% comfortable with the whole mixing prints concept.

2. Match this, not that. Pay attention to the colors not the prints. The best part about this is that if you are using complimentary colors. 9 times out of 10 the prints are going to compliment each other!  Basically, just match your colors not your prints. At the end of the day, the preference in color-matching is yours. Reminder: black and white is your neutral!

3. Go with the flow.
If you ever feel you are getting a little top heavy or busy with your prints, remember to distribute. Keeping your prints evenly distributed helps to provide balance in your look.

4. Solid break ups. Prints on prints isn't for everyone and hey that's why it's your brandom! We are allowed to have different tastes. An easy way to still incorporate prints is by using solid colors in your pieces and accessories to mellow out your look.

Happy Print-Mixing!!

Melody
